A tasty surprise

Even though it's the middle of December a farmer friend spotted these two field mushrooms, growing in a sheltered corner of one of his orchards. The larger of the two is about six inches across at its widest, lovely.
In his many, many years of farming he's never known them to be found this late in the year and once they were spotted they were given some special treatment. A fruit box over the top to protect them from the weather and a dusting of slug pellets at a suitable distance to keep the slugs at bay. Special treatment for a real treat.
Now for the easy bit, because this morning they will be spotted again; this time with eggs and bacon on our breakfast plates.
