There I would be, sitting in the front passenger seat of my father's Morris Minor, no seatbelt of course, and approaching us would be a motorcycle and sidecar combination being ridden by a uniformed AA man out on patrol. The question was always 'dad will he salute?'
He always did, seeing the the badge bolted to the grille or bumper on the front of the car up would go the gauntlet covered hand as he acknowledged a member of the AA driving in the opposite direction, my father always acknowledged the salute too. The AA and RAC patrolmen always looked a little bit like army despatch riders and it seemed to be such a romantic job to a small boy.
Respect and tradition in the 1950's, what nostalgia, so imagine our surprise when we saw this AA box near Brancaster, decorated in the black and yellow livery and adorned with that wonderful logo too.
I wonder, does Doctor Who use one of these as his North Norfolk holiday home?
That box always makes me smile when I go past it.
