A clear and breezy late evening and the fig tree has the shakes. Or the trembles. Or maybe it is just beginning to get a lot cooler in the evenings and it's shivering. All we know is that the promised bumper crop hasn't developed as we hoped it would. There are lots of figs on the tree but they just haven't matured despite the diligent watering and feeding throughout the July and August heatwave.
We had a few to eat early on in the summer but the glut that seemed to be just over the horizon hasn't transpired, very disappointing.
Now the fig tree has simply got a serious touch of the autumns. Never mind, there's always next year.
John sorry that bumper crop of figs did not materialize. Fresh figs are a real treat.
ReplyDeleteA real disappointment, we love them. The variety is Brown Turkey that is a reliable cropper in the UK but I think the extremes of weather did for them. A cold and extremely wet April and most of May then the big heat. Funnily enough the late plums aren't good either because of maggot infestation. Only about 1 in 10 are edible. As I said always next year and the pike fishing starts soon.
