Picked apples and pickled pears

A day with a little harvesting taking place. Apples for consumption on the 'apple a day basis' and pears for pickling. If you haven't tried pickled pears give them a try and get hold of some firm pears; they look good when you pick them, they smell fantastic when they're cooking and they're an aesthetic treat in the jars.

Then there's the eating after a couple of weeks. Fantastic! Brilliant with cheese, ham, roast pork or even the humble but wonderful sausage. The pickling juice makes a great salad dressing too. Beg, cadge, buy or scrump some, you'll not regret it.
Tomorrow another variety of plum for pickling and jam making but mind all the drunken wasps, they hate being disturbed.
The winter cupboard continues to fill.
