In the minus fifteen degree frost a few weeks ago it was interesting to see both the effect and the changes that the temperature and the freezing fog had on the landscape.
The barbed wire on an electric pole was softened and made to seem infinitely more benign and the chain link fence turned from plain utilitarian and ugly to a thing of beauty.
Although we're always glad to see the back of the really cold weather it does have its visual compensations.
