Late on a dull, grey and damp evening and through the low cloud the headlights in the sky herald the approach of a KC135 Stratotanker tanker flyinging through the dusk from the East before a turn towards the South East to head for the USAF base at Mildenhall.
No doubt the crew were thinking, or even dreaming, of a cold beer and their supper; after all the aircraft is a flying fuel station not a restaurant.
Even the 100th Air Refuelling Wing needs to be refuelled so it will have to be a peppered steak, medium to rare, fries, side salad and a large cold one please.
Ice cream to follow? You bet. After a long day you deserve it.
