Who ate all the apples?

The Fieldfares and Redwings ably assisted by a smaller number of Waxwings, that's who.
One quick cold snap with snow and frost and the trees have been stripped, although there are plenty of windfalls under the snow. This flock of birds must number two or three hundred and boy are they quick workers, the nearby Hawthorn and Holly bushes are pretty well bare too thanks to their feeding.
The orchard is sheltered so it looks like this will be 'bird base one' as they fly out on their  daily sorties to find food and return in the evening to roost.
