The boss and I and the two Jack Russell's have just spent a week on the North Norfolk coast in a friends converted barn and very nice it was too. We visited some favourite haunts and also found some new ones but the real pull was the coast and in particular the beaches. Mid-week and there is nobody around, you practically have the place to yourselves and despite the raw westerly wind giving you sandblasting the beaches are just magnificent.
The terriers ran and ran, got covered in sand and soaking wet but so what? We walked and we ate some fantastic sea food along with consuming a few beers and some lovely wine.
Then the weekenders started to turn up on Thursday evening and by Friday the car parks seemed to be full of BMWs, Range Rovers, Audis, Porsches and Mercedes. Sadly I didn't have the camera with me but we actually saw some big Volvo 4x4s that must have been painted to match the Farrow and Ball range of colours. Front doors possibly, but on cars?
The sound levels rose in the bar to 'braying level ten' but as a compensation for putting up with the donkey serenade our smallest and oldest Jack Russell, Minnow, routed one of the many weekending labradors and made it cry. She doesn't like Black Labradors but if they stick their cold nose up her fanny they can expect the 'mother of all acts of retribution'. When she'd finished she just wagged her tail and then cleaned herself.
It's nice to leave your mark.
The only cloud on the horizon? Well that's the sad passing of Tom Petty but we've still got his music and hence the title of this blog page.
It is a great part of the country for sure. Apparantly the dog isn't the only one who has kicked off in north Norfolk,
