Hazel catkins, it sounds like a name from a Beatrix Potter book, but there they are twisting and swinging in the wind and although they are rather innocuous little things they are a further reason for optimism. Another mark for the very beginning of the turning of the seasons. We're still in January, we've had some truly horrible weather and the multitude of grey days seem to pile up on one another but along with the snowdrops these little flowers offer a promise of brighter days to come.
Good on you hazel for brightening the January days.

Wb do have one in our Laurel hedge. Some years It let it grow. The mice love the nuts. Such neat teethwork to extrract the kernel.
