Power sculptures

One of the ever present features of the West Norfolk skyline seems to be the giant electricity pylons striding across the land and away into the far distance in front and behind you; they either look like strange stick-men or giant constructivist sculptures paying homage to electricity depending on your point of view.
We do suffer from power cuts when the swans and geese that overwinter here start crashing into the power lines when they arrive in the autumn but the collision is always with the electricity lines at a lower level; somehow I can't see a large bird bringing the cables on one of these monsters down.
On a damp day you can sometimes hear them crackling and the wind certainly plays its own tune in the various triple cables. When the wind starts the cables swaying it's a bit unnerving but I'm sure that the maths and all the calculations are correct to keep them up there.
