The results of the first test concerning circle hooks and barbless treble hooks. Treble 1- 0 circle hook. Both were barbless the treble a size six and the circle a size one and the hook baits identical, a fresh roach deadbait in each case. One fish did take the bait on the circle hook but came off after a few seconds, not exactly conclusive and exhaustive but I'll persevere for a few more trips yet.
There were very few fish bait fish or predators moving along the drain and with the wind from the north eastern sector it was cold but the old boat moorings do generally produce a fish or two and the venue and the shelter provided definitely saved the day given the temperature and weather.
Next week is a busy week so I reckon pinching the odd hour will present the only opportunities for more comparative research before the next serious long session. The weather patterns also look as if they are about to change too so we'll see what the unpredictable presents us with at the beginning of the week
I've had good luck with circles on catfish and trout here on the other side of the pond. Trick is you don't set the hook, just gradually tighten.
