On the Road to Mandalay

We have had some incredible thunderstorms over the last few days, the full on Cecil B. De Mille cataclysmic biblical variety. Tuesday night's 'tropical monsoon special' left everything soaked, drowned and battered but when the storm finally stopped lashing everything the landscape and road by the river turned into a steamy Norfolk vision from 'On the road to Mandalay'.
The photograph was taken by my contact 'The man in the Ghillie suit' who prefers to remain anonymous and blend in with the landscape and for all I know he may well be somewhere in this photograph. It's the SAS training you know.
Anyway, as I doodle away on the keyboard writing this blog, it's early Wednesday evening by the way, and we've had a storm raging for a couple of hours with lightning, thunder, hail and truly torrential rain. Weeks of no rain and an arid countryside and now we are bingeing on rain, truly incredible.
I can report however that I did not see any 'flyin'-fishes' playing on this road to Mandalay, to paraphrase Rudyard Kipling.

  1. A lovely picture. The rain was much welcome here, even on the west coast.
