Hidden in the log stack

I was busy tidying the log stack to put a bit of order in there and get ready ready for next winter's supply when small dried leaves from our Acer started tumbling out and on lifting out a larger flat log to re-position it this little nest was revealed.

This piece of ingenious Avian housebuilding was built by a Wren. During the Spring I kept hearing and seeing the birds but saw no sign of the nest. The large log made the ceiling and the entrance was at three o'clock as you look at it, later there were about ten tiny birds popping around on the fence being fed by their parents and presumably they retired to the nest at night until they were able to go their own way. A great piece of work by a small bird, totally concealed and as snug as you like. You've past the survival course with flying colours.
