Nissen not Nissan

This fine example of the Nissen hut was bought as war surplus, disassembled, moved on a truck and rebuilt as agricultural storage in 1946. Nothing lives in it now apart from a family of Little Owls that conduct night-time sorties over West Norfolk.
Six men could assemble a Nissen Hut in six hours but the record is one hour and twenty seven minutes. The originals had wooden end walls and oiled canvas windows so that makes this one a bit of an executive model; somewhere to put your briefcase and laptop. Major Peter Norman Nissen of the 29th Company Royal Engineers had a stroke of genius long before pre-fabs and Lego.
Imagine popping into your local army surplus store and buying a Nissen hut. I would if I could but the Boss wouldn't let me!
