While we were out on patrol yesterday, me driving and the boss in the turret, we spotted this lovely piece of Victorian wall art high up on a wall. What a little gem!
We have no doubt that in those fairly distant Victorian days it was totally commonplace and expected to build into the facade a piece of type explaining the building. Nobody marvelled at the craftsmanship, attention to detail or the hard work that went into producing the negative mould, fitting the terracotta, firing it perfectly and then the bricklayers building it into the fabric of the building. Just routine to the builders and clients I suppose but we love the font, the style and the attention to detail.
There are many more little beauties just like this one out there and we have chosen to accept our mission which is to find as many as possible.
