Flight of fancy

Out on patrol, me driving and the boss in the turret, the ever alert eyes in the turret spotted a swan.
In fact a golden swan and as luck would have it, this wonderful example of the art of carving adorned the arch over the yard at the side of a local hostelry, which was quite handy too.
Those other feathered swans, the big white ones, are now beginning to arrive to overwinter in the Fens from Iceland, Scandinavia and the Baltic. We've already seen a couple of bevies of swans this last week so we are looking forward to watching them arriving to gradually colonise the farmland, washes, waterways and wetlands in the area over the next month or so.
If we spot any gold swans flying overhead you'll read it here first and be the first to know. The high powered binoculars are now clipped in the turret and the camouflage gear prepared ready to head out.
Just one thought, do they lay golden eggs? No that's geese.
