Pear Drops

The last pears that were hanging on the trees are now dropping so apart from some late apples this really is the end of the season.

While we are walking the dogs on a quiet and windless morning you can hear the thuds and bumps as the super ripe fruit hits the ground. Tomorrow morning we will check and see what remains on the trees but the serious harvesting is finished and the pears are in cold stores or bottled for the winter.

The birds, rabbits, deer and small animals are feasting on the late harvest of ripe windfalls and in the last week we have even seen some drunken wasps making the most of the bounty.

Will there be anything left on the trees to eat tomorrow, here's hoping because when they are as ripe as this they are a real treat.
