'Til death do us join

These beautifully hand carved headstones were spotted while out on patrol and heading East and deeper into Norfolk, the boss scanning the horizon and me driving.

We found them in an old and neglected churchyard under a large tree. They are made from very thin limestone but because of the quality of the incised lettering the type on the distressed stone surface remains sharp and clear. The left hand stone is more decorative having an angel carved at the head and ornament on each side; the right hand one more austere and not so flamboyant.

The husband probably paid for the one on the left and the family the one on the right.

Just a thought.
