The view out from the inside of a well preserved World War 2 pill box and it may look sunny out there but it's absolutely freezing inside with a big wind-chill factor as an added bonus. What an awful prospect it must have been to be stuck inside one of these little beauties for a whole sequence of winter shifts; think about it, you can't stop the draught coming through the gun slits!
We're sure it was probably a little more weatherproof than it is now and would have had the luxury of a door and tea making facilities but we still wouldn't have fancied a snowy, windy night in here, permanently on the alert and freezing cold.
Purely functional, is without doubt, the best way to describe this billet.
