The back end of the first big storm of the year slid overhead and away to the East, thank goodness, but you can be sure there'll be more of the same arriving hot on it's heels.
This trailing edge of the cloud was boiling and writhing as it departed and although it looks quite benign in white against the blue sky, it packed a mighty punch.
Three hours before this it was like the end of the world, daylight but dark and we had to put the lights on. The howling winds and heavy driving rain arrived horizontally and we got the feeling that this one was just a rehearsal for the worst that is yet to come.
The firewood is in and the kettle is on so we're prepared.
