The type is quirky; a bizarre figure eight and then the six looks like an upside down nine but that all adds to the charm. Even the carved Bethesda tends to read as 'BET HESDA', a little like a modern bookmaker on the internet but the letter spacing only adds to the charm.
There is one thing that is certain; the founding fathers would have been horrified at any link with gambling!
