We have no idea how these solitary apples have escaped the attention of the fieldfares, redwings and other birds. They are bright red, the orchard floor is green so the red apples stand out ever brighter. There are plenty of handy perches all round that would provide a stable platform for a carefree guzzle too.
This morning we have had the first truly hard frost of the winter with an overnight frost of -4, mind you that's warm compared to last winter, so we reckon these apple's days are definitely numbered.
When we walk the dogs this morning we will check and we'd bet a bushel box that it will look like the half eaten apple below.
Well we checked and it's gone completely, not even a stalk or core left.
Another alfresco meal for the birds completed and below a Golden Delicious that will be finished off today, when it thaws out.
