Make-ready sheets

This is one of the sheets that get passed through the press before every printing session to build up the ink and check the pressure.
Over a period of time they may well have to endure up to eighty passes and many random colours and images before they are relegated to the plans chest drawer. Considering that they are made as a result of re-used proofs they become a colourful work of 'printing art' in their own right.
It isn't unreasonable to call them a constant work-in-progress. When they have too much ink on them and are unusable you can't bear to give the little jewels away let alone throw them away.
The printmaker can see the history of months of their work layered and overprinted, hidden and revealed.
