Curious and unique

      This amazing piece of ancient wall art was discovered while out on patrol, me driving and the boss in the turret, but this time with the aid of an informer's verbal map. What an absolute gem on a house wall in West Norfolk!
      Over a lot of years it has suffered from weathering and it also faces the prevailing wind which doesn't help, but we love it for the visual treasure that it is. Translated and not in 'Chaucerian English' we think it reads, line for line;

                                   the man in mirth
                                   have mercy in mind
                                   for measure is treasure
                                   when mirth is at end

      The entire verse is written in old capitals, old spelling and with no word spacing.
      On one corner at the front of the building there were also these wonderful, quirky, hand-made terracotta bricks. Lovely!
