A little bit of 19th century and a little bit of 18th century

Above are two very different uses of letterforms that are one hundred and forty-three years apart in style and production.
The portico at the top is to be found on an old Baptist Church in West Norfolk. It is not carved but moulded and is an example of a little piece of industrialisation by the Victorians. The same font also appears in an earlier post entitled 'Fen Gothic" so someone must have had the contract for all the local Baptist Churches.
Below this is an exquisite memorial stone in Lincoln Cathedral, a triumph of the stonemason's skills and a fine example of lettering as an art form.
So there you are, time and styles change but whether poured or incised they are all an echo of the past.
