Straight as a dyke

Drainage, not a very glamorous subject but the dykes and drains and the reeds and grasses create another world for the wild-life giving them shelter in extreme weather conditions. When the dykes and drains run at right angles to one another there is always somewhere for them to go to shelter from the wind and driving rain.
Now that we've had some rain the water levels are rising and if the water levels are maintained there'll be a lot of happy frogs, toads, newts and eels in the April and May.
Spring is in the air, well almost, today it's absolutely freezing and we're waiting for the big one to blow in or so say the weather forecasters.
If it does blow in from the east that'll give us yet another perspective on the landscape.
