A postcard from the far corner

A long distance patrol to North East England, me driving and the boss in the turret, past places with exotic names that are to the East and West of the Great North Road. Peterborough, Worksop, Doncaster, Catterick, Darlington, Spennymoor, Chester-le-Street, Gateshead, Dunston and finally Newcastle.
Now, no journey to the far corner is complete without a trip to see if the sea is still there so we warmed up the patrol vehicle, packed the tartan rug and flask and sidled down to Tynemouth for a picnic. The weather was beautiful, beautifully grey, unremittingly grey with a north east wind blowing.
As proof of a successful patrol we took a photograph of the sea. The sea is the grey bit at the bottom and the sky the grey bit at the top, the anchored ships are there to provide a sense of scale and romance. They are anchored because there are no stars visible to steer them by.
Then we went for rations in the pub, perfect.
