Opening day

June 16, the opening day of the coarse fishing season, and if you read all the books it will be perfect summer morning, the sun burning off the mist, the lily pads rocking as a fish moves into your swim and bubbles rising around the bright red quill.
I bet it rains and blows a gale, just as it is in the photograph above. But this little swim where a side drain joins a bigger drain smells of perch, zander and pike. I've seen big perch gathering here so when the opening weekend is over and there are fewer anglers about I'll be paying it a well planned visit.
Meanwhile I keep dreaming and keep its location a secret.
Saturday morning, it's 04.27am and it's only blowing a gale, no rain as yet...
