We were working in the long border tidying and replanting in preparation for winter when we spotted this chrysalis hanging from a leaf and we came to an abrupt halt.
After regarding it with great interest we decided to leave the plant alone to wait and see what developed, how naive was that?
Over supper we discussed employing the schoolboy 'large jam jar trick' as a better idea and resolved to collect the chrysalis the next day.
The next day dawned but it had gone. Was it eaten by a bird? Did it hatch into a moth? Or did it hatch into a butterfly?
Well, we'll never know and we'll just have to remain frustrated until next year.
