Quatermass returns

The underwater world in one of the dykes that has been drained down has taken on a new dimension.
The algal growth has the look of a gas cloud in some nebula far out in the cosmos; the growth has smothered the pondweed but what causes it we have no idea. The dyke has been drained down twice because of all the rain and the drainage pipes are rapidly filling it up again with more clear, fresh water.
The hard frost that we enjoyed last night may well kill it off but for now we have a strange insight into another world.
The terriers don't look very good when they climb out of the water though!
