A rather uninspiring plaque at an old RAF airfield. The people we asked at Duxford didn't know why it was there or what the P&W.A. meant either but it transpires that this was the year when the airfield officially opened.
Some of the original buildings were built by PoW's so maybe that's why it is so low-key and high up on the side of the building.
It is situated in what looks like an old window recess about fifteen feet from the ground and we're convinced that it was part of the original entrance to the airfield.
All-in-all a bit of a 'Plain Jane' celebratory plaque.
