A huge halo around the sun, it was so big I couldn't get the whole event in the viewfinder, even with the 18mm lens.
Seconds later the lower and faster moving stratocumulus completely obscured this optical effect created by the sun shining through the cirrostratus.
The RAF pilots flying the Eurofighter Typhoons in mock dogfights way up in the sky must still have a splendid view, lucky people.
