Our resident Barn Owls and Little Owls are very busy, presumably because they are feeding their young.
Lying on the path just past the Nissen Hut was a massive owl pellet that contained a bird's leg, quite a large one too when it's scaled against the ruler in the picture below. We see the owls hunting rodents and small rabbits but do they hunt down birds too?
The pellet didn't come from the Sparrowhawks, we often see the result of their hunting in the form of stripped bird carcasses lying on the ground or hanging in trees in the orchards.
Time to read up on owls and see if they do hunt birds or eat carrion, that leg must have scraped on the way up and down.
We'll see what this morning's walk throws up, if you'll pardon the phrase.
