Ploughing by hand

From the days before small tractors made life easy on the farms and smallholdings, this is a one man hand plough. Just imagine pulling this through your land in all weathers so that you can grow enough potatoes for the winter and be able to sell some too.
Sounds simple doesn't it; you look at the plough and walk backwards making smooth pulling motions to create the furrows.
The farmer I spoke to and who allowed me to photograph this implement, said that his father-in-law used this plough until he retired. He also added that father-in-law was a man with prodigious upper body strength.
So, if you were hand ploughing you were certainly taking exercise and producing food to eat and sell.
Who needs a gym subscription, take up hand ploughing instead.
