'Get your eyes tested!'
Finally it's the first Saturday of the new football season, the proper fan's football starts here and we can ignore the ongoing transfer bore that is the Premiership.
So, here is a first proof of an old print to celebrate the big kick-off and it's called 'Get your eyes tested!'
The scene is a recreation ground somewhere in the far corner that is the North East of England. Two pub teams whose respective strips bear an uncanny resemblance to Middlesbrough and Newcastle are playing their first game, OK I know Boro and the Toon are two pub teams and who's arguing anyway?
The working men's club and the pubs have emptied and the arguments and banter 'develop'. Even the Jack Russells look confused, and the spectators are so inebriated that they can't tell the ball from the moon.
Neither can the players for that matter.
Never mind there'll be time over more beers afterwards to analyse the game.
