Any old iron?

Blacksmith's iron and steel handiwork, long since discarded and gently rusting away in retirement. Huge nails in the wall holding a horseshoe and a hook, a chain tethered to what looks like a piece of steel rail and a lovely old spade minus the ash handle.
That spade has to restorable, a little welding, repair the studs and fit a new blade and handle and it would be as good as new, back to its glory days you could say. The boss says buy a new one, it's knackered. A bit like me and I don't like the way this conversation is going.
We often look at these items and wonder who made them and when and what were they used for and where.
What stories they could tell if you could tap into the memories around them.
