Fog, mist and mystery



      We do love a good fog now that we don't have to get in the car and drive to work anymore. In West Norfolk and anywhere in Fenland it gives the whole area a sense of brooding mystery. Part of this is history, some is because of the landscape. The whole effect and the atmosphere is very different to the effect that a fog has in a city or town.
      Sometimes the fog clears to brilliant sunshine but today it cleared to an unremitting dull greyness and a strange almost luminescent half light. No doubt the fog will be back tonight cloaking us once again in a grey blanket.
      The landscape at the top shows the fog forming behind the orchard in the early evening as the temperature drops. The picture below is of the landscape to the front of our house the following morning.
