A day of unsettled weather, hot and sultry, heavy showers and now really vicious squalls and thunderstorms. In the distance a field of late planted oilseed rape is still in full flower while other fields of the same crop are podding up at great speed.
The rain that is about to fall from the clouds will do the fruit in orchards a lot of good and the sugar beet in the foreground will continue to grow apace. Meanwhile the thunder and lightning approach because, while there is very little wind at ground level, the clouds are moving very quickly. We appear to have a weather drive-by.
The forecast is rapidly changeable with heavy downpours.
