It's a kind of magic

You walk through the orchard in the evening pulling the two terriers out of the brambles and undergrowth and there aren't any fungi to be seen. Next morning on the walk and there they are, precisely where there was nothing the night before.
We know the Shaggy Ink Caps when we see them and they just grow and grow and then fall over because of the weight of the head. The others, well you wouldn't want to eat them, would you? No doubt they have enough poisonous compounds in them to kill you several times over.
Interestingly the slugs never chew into them at all, the toadstools just get bigger until they are seven or eight inches across and then they rot away.
No matter, it is magical the way they suddenly appear.
