The great wide open

Fenland in the Autumn. The harvest is pretty well over apart from the seasonal vegetables such cabbage, carrot, leek and the dreaded Christmas sprouts.
The field on the right is already being drilled with winter wheat and on the left a recently cropped sugar beet field is being prepared for drilling. Before long there will be three tractors on the field with two preparing the land and one drilling the seed.
The seeming emptiness of Fenland is well illustrated here on a grey November day; the yellow wheels of the John Deere tractor, the green dyke brink and the poles for the power lines are the only things that break up the view.
Service has been resumed and next years bread is being planted.
I wish the sun would come out.
