Chain Harrow

It is quite well camouflaged agains the ground but this a vintage chain harrow, although to a lot of people might think it looks like the base of an old bed with the mattress removed.
Dragged by a horse or behind a small tractor the short tines would gather up all of the old roots and dead plants leaving a lovely clear fine tilth behind that was ready for sowing with whatever crop was due to be planted. Now it is redundant in the terms of modern farming but one of our retired farmer friends still presses it into use it on his vegetable patch and it still works.
It's good to see to the old ones still working.
