There's a pleasing symmetry and texture about the Fenland landscape when the farmers start the autumn ploughing and tidying prior to planting next years crops.
The land here has just had a deep ploughing and the weather through the winter will start to break it down before preparation begins for the sowing of the next crop and in this case it will be maincrop potatoes although we don't know the specific variety to be planted as yet. King Edward, Maris Bard, Maris Piper, Arran Pilot we'll find out soon enough.
This land has not had a potato crop grown on it for fifteen years so the incidence of eelworm should be very low, hence the eagerness for the contracted potato crop that will be sown here.
