Ratty's home in the side of the dyke and not a bad little estate to lay claim to either. He, or they, have got a swimming pool that faces south and there is a very full larder too with lots to forage for and to chew on. If you are quiet in your approach you can hear them munching away on a good salad before you even see them.
There is quite a good population of these innocent and harmless creatures in the sides of the dykes and even the two Jack Russell Terriers are learning to leave them alone after being shouted at so many times as they tried to re-excavate the waterside homes of the voles.
Now simply shouting 'vole' stops them and with a Jack Russell Terrier that really is progress.
