Rusting in peace

It's that lovely heritage shade of Norfolk Bog Door Blue again and this time it's gracing a large tank that contains fuel oil, but over the years the blue has faded and is slowly being washed away with rust stains although the tank has gained the appearance of a modern painting.
The rust is a pleasant enough colour but it's rather ordinary when compared to a coat of freshly applied NBDB, with the weathering and fading and the patination of rust the tank has the appearance of a warship that has spent too long at sea.
Now, dare I suggest to the farmer that he should rub the tank down and re-paint it? I know what the answer would be to that suggestion. basically 'if you're so keen you rub it down and I'll supply the paint'.
Or words to that effect anyway.
