Walking across the front lawn quietly collecting some worms for bait when the peace was disturbed by a tremendous squealing and squeaking that started up just out of sight over the hedge. Slowly and carefully sneaking up on the culprits, and fully expecting a cat battling and fighting with a large rat to come into view, my surprise was complete because the culprits were two young male sparrow hawks brawling away on the pavement.
Feathers were flying but the sight of me peering over the hedge had them both back on the wing quickly enough. One parked himself on a nearby bus stop and the other simply circled appearing to call the other one names. Brawl over and done with.
Was a it a fight for territory? No doubt mum and dad would have something to say about that.
