It's last week and there I am out in the front garden, not gardening but digging worms in the hope of catching some more perch, when I see the strange random holes in the lawn. At first you just notice one group of them then as your curiosity is roused you start to see lots more of them in little groups of three or four.
The culprit? A green woodpecker, whether he's looking for worms or ants I don't know but I do know that he digs a deep hole, his beak goes down three and a half inches so there must be some good protein down there.
As long as he doesn't pinch the lobworms I don't mind.
