The outdoor crop of chillies and the greenhouse crop of tomatoes are doing fabulously well, all of the tomato varieties that we planted are cropping heavily and the word glut seems to sum up the volume that we are being presented with.
The variety above is an Italian plum tomato called Debarro Paste, this is our second year of growing this particular variety and it has rewarded our confidence in its ability to produce. Each of the three plants have produced pounds and pounds of fruit.
The Boss has been converting the tomatoes into sauces and passata from the fresh fruit, then it is sealed in boxes and into the freezer it goes for use on those grey days in the autumn and winter when you wish you could pick fresh tomatoes.
The outdoor crop of chillies is doing equally well and the Hungarian Hot Wax is yet another bumper crop. Pickled, on pizzas or stuffed with cheese they are just brilliant and the surplus will go into the Boss' ever popular sweet chilli sauce.
Ring of Fire, Peter Pepper, JalapeƱo and Serrano are coming along nicely too. The season of plenty, what a wonderful time.
Ring of fire. Oh very dear.
ReplyDeleteLook lovely John - I haven't grown any tommies or chillies this year - loads of other stuff, but would help if I hadn't sold the greenhouse!! TTFN Dickie
