Playing with myself

The boss got sick of me playing 'peanut solitaire' when I'm enjoying a beer so she's bought me a beautiful antique solitaire board and each of the counters are made from different minerals.
There's rose quartz, jasper and they are the only two I have managed to identify because although they are individually named they are named in French. Never mind, another fun job for the dark evenings.
The board is made from hand carved African hardwood of some kind and is about fourteen inches in diameter the whole set was made in Africa in the middle of the19th century. How did they make the marbles?
By the way, at the moment the board, or the crocodile at eleven o'clock is winning 2 - 0.
