Well the so called 'beast from the east' came and went. In the shelter of the orchard everything had a dusting of snow but with the cold and freezing weather the birds began to find food harder and harder to find.
With food becoming harder to find all of the fieldfares, redwings, blackbirds and loads of LBJs homed in on the windfalls and within a day or two the ground under the apple trees had been pecked bare and looked like this.
If the cold weather returns the birds will have to find a new soup kitchen to pillage because now there is absolutely nothing left here, even the sparrowhawks have had to find a new larder for fresh meat.
Hard times for all the birds.
Birds do love an apple. I have to stock their larder daily
