Abandoned camp

The last time I looked at this Robin's nest almost hidden amongst a pile of paper sacks there were five eggs in the cup and the parents were sitting. Then one morning there were no parents  to be seen on or around the nest and all of the the eggs had disappeared.
No predatory magpies or crows venture in to these buildings so the culprit must be our 'friend' the rat who has had an egg feast at the robin's expense. I don't have any idea how many songbirds nest are ravaged by those greedy and opportunistic corvids and rats who take the eggs and young from them but I'm sure it must number millions.
Anyway all of the eggs have gone and I'm going to have an armed patrol to see just how confident the thieves are feeling.
